Indonesia Has the Lowest Booster Vaccination Rate in Southeast Asia

The Indonesian government continues to strive to accelerate the Covid-19 vaccination program, including the administration of third doses or booster vaccines.

Unfortunately, to date, the progress of booster vaccinations in Indonesia remains the lowest in Southeast Asia.

According to Our World in Data, the booster vaccination ratio in Indonesia was 6.38 per 100 people as of March 22, 2022.

Singapore has the highest booster vaccination ratio in Southeast Asia, at 70.03 per 100 people.

This is followed by Cambodia with a ratio of 52.57 booster doses per 100 people, Malaysia at 47.38, Vietnam at 45.46, and Thailand at 32.14.

The Philippines' booster vaccination ratio has also surpassed Indonesia's, at 10.42 per 100 people. Data for Myanmar, Laos, and Brunei Darussalam are not yet available.

The Ministry of Health states that complete Covid-19 vaccination plus a booster provides up to 91% protection against fatal outcomes and severe symptoms from Covid-19 infection.

The risk of death for non-elderly individuals without comorbidities who have received a booster is 0.49%. The risk of death for elderly individuals without comorbidities who have received a booster is 7.5%.

The risk of death for non-elderly individuals without comorbidities who have received a complete two-dose vaccination is 2.9%. Meanwhile, the risk of death for elderly individuals without comorbidities who have received a complete two-dose vaccination is 22.8%.

The number of deaths in the group with comorbidities who have not received complete vaccination is 739. This figure is significantly higher than the number of deaths in the comorbid group that has received a booster, which is 20.
