The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 126,510 visits by foreign tourists (wisman) to Indonesia in September 2021. This figure is up 1.41% compared to the previous month, which saw 124,750 visits.
Compared to the same period last year, foreign tourist visits decreased by 15.08%. In September 2020, there were 148,980 foreign tourist visits to Indonesia.
Cumulatively, foreign tourist visits to Indonesia reached 1.19 million from January to September 2021. This figure is down 67% compared to the same period the previous year, which saw 3.6 million visits.
In September 2021, the most foreign tourist visits to Indonesia originated from Timor Leste, totaling 72,900. This accounts for 57.62% of total foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in September 2021. The second highest number of foreign tourists came from Malaysia, with 39,800 visits. Visits from China and Papua New Guinea were 2,200 each.
By mode of transportation, there were 4,750 foreign tourist arrivals by air in September 2021. This figure increased by 195.09% compared to the previous month, which saw 1,610 visits.
Furthermore, the number of foreign tourist visits using sea transport reached 35,270 last month. This figure increased slightly by 0.14% compared to the previous month, which saw 35,220 visits.
Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits using land transport were recorded at 86,500 in September this year. This figure decreased by 1.62% compared to August 2021, which reached 87,920 visits.
