This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Ten countries recorded an increase in deaths this week, while seven others saw a decrease.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Colombia, Argentina, El Salvador, Panama, and Brazil. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, June 29, 2022, amounted to 1,483, with a weekly growth exceeding 34.59 percent.
Colombia recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 250 percent. Worldometer recorded 21 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's six deaths.
Argentina follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 206.67 percent. The country reported 46 deaths, compared to 15 the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, El Salvador reported four deaths (up 100%), Panama saw a 35.29% increase in deaths, and Brazil saw a 34.59% increase.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas occurred in the United States, with 1,437 deaths. Death reports in the country increased by 16.07% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded 1,389 deaths (up 34.59%), Mexico recorded 172 deaths (down 18.87%), Chile recorded 168 deaths (up 0.6%), and Canada recorded 135 deaths (down 31.47%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 3,636. This accounts for 41.19 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 8,827. The death toll in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,149 deaths.
