Based on PATH data, Indonesia required 124,029 7m³ oxygen cylinders per day to manage the COVID-19 virus on Thursday, July 1, 2021. This amount is equivalent to 51.7% of the total oxygen needs in Southeast Asia.
Furthermore, Indonesia's oxygen needs are the highest in Southeast Asia, exceeding those of the Philippines and Malaysia. Daily oxygen needs in these two countries reached 37,100 and 37,000 7m³ cylinders, respectively.
The increase in Indonesia's oxygen needs coincides with the rise in positive COVID-19 cases following the 2021 Eid al-Fitr holiday. In fact, domestic corona cases increased by 24,836 on Thursday, July 1, 2021. This figure is the highest since the corona pandemic began in Indonesia.
Not only positive cases, but the death toll from corona has also surged recently. The additional number of corona-related deaths even reached its highest point at 504 yesterday.
To curb the surge in positive cases and deaths due to corona, the government urges the public to diligently implement the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
