The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.11 million cases by Sunday, August 28, 2022. Lebanon recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 119.16 percent. GISAID recorded 366 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region decreased by 0.81 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Ukraine, which recorded a 36.61 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 11.94 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, new Omicron cases in Indonesia increased by 6.27 percent to 20,130 compared to the previous week, Malaysia saw 15,665 new Omicron cases (a 6.19% increase), and Ecuador saw a 5.91 percent increase to 2,922 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 20,130 new Omicron cases were recorded today, a 0.87 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
