The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that DKI Jakarta had 63,098 health workers in 2020. The largest number of health workers were nurses, totaling 36,200.
Second were doctors, numbering 10,100. Following that were pharmacy professionals, reaching 8,100.
Then, there were 7,100 midwives in Jakarta last year. Meanwhile, the number of nutritionists working in the capital city was recorded at 1,500.
Health workers became increasingly needed in Jakarta during the second wave of the Covid-19 coronavirus. The reason is that the increasing surge in coronavirus cases also led to an increase in patients hospitalized.
In addition, quite a few health workers contracted coronavirus, some even dying. Based on this, the DKI Jakarta Health Office reopened the recruitment of health workers in phase III to assist in handling coronavirus.
To ease the burden on health workers, the public needs to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Jakarta. This can be done by diligently implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap.
