These are the Various Activities of Tourists Visiting Borobudur Temple

Borobudur Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Magelang, Central Java. This site is frequently visited by both domestic and international tourists.

According to a survey report by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) titled *Perceptions of Borobudur Temple Tourism*, 78% of respondents admitted to having visited the temple, while 22% had not.

Of the respondents who had visited Borobudur Temple, the most common activity was walking around the temple courtyard, at 97%.

Many visitors also took photos (96%), toured the temple complex (94%), and climbed the temple structure (89%). Currently, climbing Borobudur Temple is restricted to maintain the building's preservation and its function as a place of worship.

The KIC survey also found that 70.2% of respondents were aware that some parts of the temple terraces are off-limits to the general public.

"The public is quite aware of violations regarding climbing onto the temple terraces. The higher the area of the temple, the more it is known by the public as a restricted area," wrote KIC in its report.

The three least common activities respondents engaged in while visiting Borobudur Temple were watching the sunset (29%), watching the sunrise (24%), and watching the lantern festival during Waisak (13%).

This survey was conducted among 2,191 respondents spread across Indonesia. Data collection was carried out from March 21 to April 18, 2023, using an online survey method.
