This week's Covid-19 statistics in Africa show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, six countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and Tunisia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, July 25, 2022, amounted to 49, with a weekly growth exceeding 61.9 percent.
Zimbabwe recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Africa, with weekly growth reaching 400 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded five deaths, a 16.67 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Zambia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 300 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at four. The Ivory Coast recorded four deaths (up 300%), Kenya two deaths (up 100%), and Tunisia 34 deaths (up 61.9%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in Tunisia with 34 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 61.9% compared to the previous week. Following this, Morocco reported 29 deaths (up 3.57%), South Africa 25 deaths (down 40.48%), Zimbabwe 5 deaths (up 400%), and Malawi 5 deaths (unchanged from the previous period).
Total deaths in Africa over the last seven days were recorded at 122. This accounts for one percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 12,215. The number of deaths in Africa decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 144 deaths.
