According to the Directorate General of Health Manpower, Ministry of Health, there were 43,558 specialist doctors in hospitals in 2021.

Of this number, 17,584 were basic specialist doctors, 7,075 were supporting specialist doctors, 16,065 were other specialist doctors, and 2,834 were specialist dentists.

By region, 26,816 (61.56%) specialist doctors were located in hospitals on Java Island. The remaining 16,742 (38.44%) were located outside Java.
