The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.67 million cases by Sunday, July 24, 2022. French Guiana ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 90.75 percent. GISAID recorded 763 new Omicron cases in this country. Daily cases in this region increased by 54.45 percent compared to the previous day.
Serbia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 36.49 percent. Daily figures show a 15.33 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 587 cases.
Next is Taiwan, with an increase of 119 Omicron cases (up 23.96 percent), Pakistan with a 17.19 percent increase to 1,043 cases compared to the previous week, and France with an increase of 181,950 Omicron cases (up 14.81 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 16,346, a 5.83 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
