The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.76 million cases by Monday, February 6, 2023. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 0.96 percent. GISAID recorded 2.18 million Omicron cases in the US, an increase from the 2.16 million reported the previous week.
The United Kingdom follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 0.27 percent. Daily figures show a 0.03 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, reaching 1.39 million cases.
Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in the Netherlands increased by 1.69 percent to 67,979 compared to the previous week; in Ireland, cases rose by 1.02 percent to 53,315; and in Indonesia, cases increased by 0.99 percent to 34,041 compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases stands at 34,041, a 0.01 percent increase from the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
