With the increasing rate of Omicron in Indonesia, currently 95 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting weekly testing percentages above the national average. Data as of Monday, January 9, 2023, shows the national average testing rate at 13.68 percent. This testing achievement data is calculated based on the number of people tested compared to the weekly target of each region, which is then reported to the Ministry of Health.
The top five, starting from the highest percentage of people tested per week, are Balikpapan City (514.75%), Purwakarta (253.91%), Kutai Kartanegara (234.26%), Bontang City (195.6%), and Tarakan City (186.47%).
Balikpapan City ranks first. With a population of 649,420, the weekly testing percentage is recorded at 514.75 percent. The latest positive rate is 0.18 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week's ratio.
Next is Purwakarta. The population in this region is recorded at 965,370. In an effort to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly testing percentage is 253.91 percent. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 0.33 percent, which has also decreased compared to the previous week's percentage.
Furthermore, the weekly testing percentage in Kutai Kartanegara is recorded at 234.26 percent, Bontang City recorded 195.6 percent, and Tarakan City recorded 186.47 percent.
In anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on the national Covid data recapitulation, there are 194 regencies/cities in Indonesia that actively report a higher daily weekly testing percentage than before. Meanwhile, 148 other regencies/cities recorded a lower weekly testing percentage compared to the previous week's testing.
Some of the regions outside Java with the highest weekly testing percentage ratios include Balikpapan City, Kutai Kartanegara, and Bontang City, with weekly testing percentages of 514.75 percent, 234.26 percent, and 195.6 percent, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission in some areas has decreased, the government urges everyone to continue to participate in reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.
