This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Five countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while 11 others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, the United States, and Guatemala. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, September 26, 2022, amounted to 2,207, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 4.08 percent.
Colombia recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 15 percent. Worldometer recorded 23 deaths in the country, an increase from 20 the previous week.
Peru followed in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 14.81 percent. Daily death figures increased by 16.98% compared to the previous day, which recorded 159 deaths.
Next was Paraguay with 19 deaths (up 11.76%), the United States with 1,928 deaths (up 8.87%), and Guatemala with a 4.08% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,928 deaths. Death reports in the country increased by 8.87% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil reported 427 deaths (down 15.94%), Canada 216 deaths (down 23.13%), Peru 186 deaths (up 14.81%), and Chile 123 deaths (down 16.33%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were recorded at 3,104. This accounts for 35.88 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 8,650. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,150.
