India remains the country with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in Asia. According to Worldometers data, as of Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 8:49 AM WIB, 1,308,806 people in India required either self-isolation or hospitalization due to coronavirus infection.
This number represents 4.5% of India's total COVID-19 cases, which reached 28,996,949. However, active COVID-19 cases in India have begun to decline since mid-May 2021. This has prompted the government to ease restrictions starting Monday, June 7, 2021, as reported by Reuters.
Meanwhile, Iran is second in Asia with 324,115 active cases. Iran's proportion of active cases is even higher than India's, reaching 10.9% of the national total.
Indonesia is next with 99,663 active cases, or 5.3% of the national total. Although the proportion is continuously shrinking, a surge in COVID-19 cases has been identified in several regions, such as Kudus Regency, Central Java, and Bangkalan Regency, East Java.
To prevent the spread of coronavirus, the public is urged to diligently implement the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
