Anticipating the impact of the rising Omicron variant, 149 regencies/cities aggressively conducted Covid-19 testing above the national average. Data from Monday, January 16, 2023, shows a national average of 0.4 tests per 1,000 people per week.
The top five, starting with the highest, are South Jakarta, Balikpapan, Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, and West Jakarta, with 4.07, 4.01, 3.99, 2.91, and 2.59 tests per 1,000 people per week, respectively.
South Jakarta ranks first, with 4.07 tests per 1,000 people per week. The latest positive rate is 2.04 percent, down from the previous week.
Balikpapan is next. With a population of 649,420, it conducted 4.01 tests per 1,000 people per week. The positive rate is 0.46 percent, up from the previous week.
Central Jakarta recorded 3.99 tests per 1,000 people per week, East Jakarta 2.91, and West Jakarta 2.59.
In anticipation of Omicron's impact, national Covid-19 data shows 150 regencies/cities actively reporting higher daily testing numbers than before, while 149 others reported lower numbers compared to the previous week.
Outside Java, areas with the highest number of tests include Balikpapan, Badung, and Mimika, with 4.01, 2.44, and 2.25 tests per 1,000 people per week, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing transmission by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
