This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Fifteen countries recorded increased deaths this week, while eight others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Israel, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. A total of 52 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Tuesday, October 25, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 100 percent.
Israel recorded the highest increase in deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 457.14 percent. Worldometer recorded 39 deaths in the country, a significant increase from the seven deaths reported the previous week.
Sri Lanka follows with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 400 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was five. Deaths in Pakistan increased by 300%, Kuwait by 100% (two deaths), and the United Arab Emirates by 100%.
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, Taiwan recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 415 deaths. This represents a 10.08% increase compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, Japan recorded 404 deaths (up 6.6%), the Philippines 269 deaths (up 7.6%), South Korea 150 deaths (down 1.96%), and Indonesia 116 deaths (up 7.41%).
A total of 1,695 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 20.05 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 8,455. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 1,588 deaths.
