The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 932,900 cases by Monday, February 14, 2022. According to GISAID data, Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 75 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Iran (Islamic Republic) currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Next is Mauritius, which reported a 79.59 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 15.79 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Following this, Poland reported 15,588 new Omicron cases (a 53.02% increase), France reported 30,039 new Omicron cases (a 45.76% increase), and Bangladesh saw a 42.7 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 254 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 5,305 new Omicron cases were recorded, representing a 3.9 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
