East Java Has the Highest Number of Covid-19 Deaths in Indonesia

The Indonesian Ministry of Health recorded a total of 69,210 deaths from the Covid-19 virus in Indonesia as of Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Of this number, the highest number of deaths occurred in East Java, with 14,669 fatalities.

Central Java is next, contributing 13,477 Covid-19 deaths. Jakarta accounts for 9,669 deaths, while West Java recorded 6,902 deaths from the virus.

The death toll has increased along with the surge in Covid-19 cases since early June 2021. Yesterday, cases increased by 54,517, the highest daily increase throughout the pandemic.

To curb the spread of the virus, the government implemented Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) in Java and Bali from July 3-20, 2021. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani indicated that the emergency PPKM will likely continue until mid-August 2021.

Furthermore, the public is urged to diligently follow the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. The public is also encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
