This week's Covid-19 statistics in Africa show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 11 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Sudan, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Seychelles, and Ghana. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, August 10, 2022, amounted to 32, with a weekly growth rate above 0 percent.
Sudan recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Africa, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's single death.
Next is Zimbabwe, which recorded 50 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported six more deaths than the previous week's four. Morocco reported 21 deaths (up 16.67%), while deaths in Seychelles and Ghana decreased by 0%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in Morocco with 21 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 16.67% compared to the previous week. Following Morocco, Tunisia reported nine deaths (down 85.94%), Zimbabwe six deaths (up 50%), Sudan three deaths (up 200%), and Malawi three deaths (down 50%).
A total of 53 deaths were recorded in Africa over the past seven days. This accounts for 0.38 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 13,947. The number of deaths in Africa decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 140 deaths.
