The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.2 million cases by Saturday, September 10, 2022. According to GISAID data, Bulgaria recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 6,079 new cases. This represents 0.12 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The Dominican Republic follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country increased by 20.04 percent, with 545 new cases reported. Daily statistics show an increase of nine percent compared to the previous day's 500 cases.
Next is Mayotte, with 320 additional Omicron cases (an 11.89% increase), Greece with a 10.53 percent increase to 7,442 cases compared to the previous week, and Russia with an 8.71 percent increase to 8,196 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 21,211 cases. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
