President Jokowi recently inaugurated an Ultra Fast Charging type Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) in the ITDC area, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday (25/3).
On this occasion, Jokowi stated that electric vehicles and SPKLUs are part of Indonesia's grand design for energy transition from fossil fuels to new and renewable energy (EBT).
"Besides being environmentally friendly, the shift from BBM vehicles to electric vehicles also has economic benefits that secure state revenue up to Rp2,044 trillion in 2050," tweeted Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir on his Twitter account at the same time.
The Ultra Fast Charging SPKLU is prepared as a supporting facility for the operation of electric vehicles for participants of the G20 Summit, which is planned to be held in Bali in October 2022.
PLN is reported to have prepared 60 Ultra Fast Charging SPKLUs to support the event, with a total investment of Rp72.84 billion.
Where Does the Electricity Supply for SPKLU in Bali Come From?
Although claimed to be environmentally friendly, SPKLUs in Bali are still expected to heavily rely on electricity supply from fossil fuels.
Until the end of 2021, the electricity supply infrastructure for the Java-Madura-Bali region was still dominated by "dirty energy" power plants.
According to data from the Directorate General of Electricity, fossil fuel power plants in Java-Madura-Bali have a total installed capacity of 40,550.4 MW, or approximately 90.4% of the total energy supply in the region.
Meanwhile, EBT power plants account for only 9.6%, with a total installed capacity of 4,306.8 MW.
Detailed by power plant type, fossil fuel electricity for the Java-Madura-Bali region is mostly supplied from:
* Coal-fired Power Plants (PLTU): 26,382 MW
* Combined Cycle Power Plants (PLTGU): 10,383.7 MW
* Gas and Gas Engine Power Plants (PLTG/MG): 3,473.1 MW
* Diesel Power Plants (PLTD): 311.2 MW
Meanwhile, new and renewable energy (EBT) power plants for the Java-Madura-Bali region consist of:
* Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA): 2,827.6 MW
* Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP): 1,253.8 MW
* Solar Power Plants (PLTS): 27.2 MW
* Other types of EBT power plants: 198.2 MW
