14 Percent of Infants in Jakarta Suffer from Malnutrition

Approximately 14 percent of infants in DKI Jakarta have suboptimal nutritional status. The 2016 DKI Jakarta People's Welfare Indicator Report shows that 11.2 percent of infants suffer from undernutrition and 2.8 percent experience severe malnutrition. Meanwhile, 78 percent of infants in the capital city have normal nutritional status, and 7.5 percent are actually overnourished.

In 2005, infants with severe malnutrition reached 7.3 percent, then decreased to 2.9 percent in 2007 and further decreased to 2.6 percent in 2010. However, in 2013 it increased again to 2.8 percent.

The nutritional status of infants in DKI Jakarta in 2003 and 2005 is based on the results of the Iodine Salt survey. Meanwhile, the data for 2007, 2010, and 2013 are based on the results of the Basic Health Research.
