This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, five countries recorded an increase in deaths, while four others recorded deaths, albeit in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, March 29, 2023, amounted to 131, with a weekly growth exceeding 1.61 percent.
Saudi Arabia recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded six deaths, a 20 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is India, which recorded 47.37 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. However, daily data shows a 15.15% decrease in deaths compared to the previous day. Then, Thailand with six deaths (up 20%), Indonesia with 28 deaths (up 16.67%), and the Philippines with a 1.61% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 229 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 20.76% compared to the previous week. Following this, the Philippines reported the highest number with 63 deaths (up 1.61%), South Korea with 53 deaths (down 7.02%), India with 28 deaths (up 47.37%), and Indonesia with 28 deaths (up 16.67%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 444. This accounts for 15.54 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,857. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 499 deaths.
