The Indonesian Ministry of Health recorded an additional 24,836 positive COVID-19 cases on July 1, 2021. This is the highest daily increase since the start of the pandemic in Indonesia.
19,247 people, or 77.5% of the additional cases, originated from six provinces that implemented Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) from July 3-20, 2021. These six provinces are Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, and Bali.
In detail, the highest number of additional cases came from Jakarta, with 7,541 cases. West Java was second with 6,179 additional cases, followed by Central Java with 2,624 cases.
East Java and Yogyakarta reported 1,397 and 895 additional cases, respectively. Bali reported 311 additional cases, while Banten reported 300.
The government implemented the emergency PPKM in the six Java-Bali provinces due to the surging number of COVID-19 cases. This emergency PPKM covers 45 regencies/cities with an assessment score of four and 76 regencies/cities with an assessment score of three.
During the emergency PPKM, the government will also intensify COVID-19 testing. The target is to conduct 410,000 COVID-19 tests per day in the six Java-Bali provinces.
The public is urged to diligently follow the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. Furthermore, the public is encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
