The Charta Politika research institute conducted a survey on the reasons behind people's choices for the 2024 presidential and vice-presidential candidates (capres-cawapres).

The results show that the majority of respondents (24.8%) chose a particular candidate pair because they possess a people-oriented character or show concern for the people.

The next most frequent reasons were decisiveness or authority (18.2%), intelligence or education (12%), and honesty or cleanliness from corruption, collusion, and nepotism (11.3%).

Other reasons for choosing specific capres-cawapres included fighting for the interests of the common people (7.9%), having convincing promises or programs (7.9%), and being friendly or polite (3.2%).

A smaller percentage chose candidates based on a combination of experienced and young leaders (3.2%), following family choices (1.8%), and because of their simple nature (1.7%).

The survey also found that the majority (75.7%) of respondents stated they were firm in their choice of capres-cawapres.

Meanwhile, 20.9% of respondents might still change their choice, and 3.4% did not answer or did not know.

The Charta Politika survey involved 1,220 respondents aged 17 or older or who were married. The sample was selected randomly using a multistage random sampling method.

Data was collected from January 4-11, 2024, using face-to-face interviews. The survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.82% and a 95% confidence level.
