Average Protein Consumption in 38 Provinces of Indonesia Early 2025

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the average protein consumption of the Indonesian population reached 62.78 grams per capita per day in March 2025.

A total of 48.41 grams of protein was consumed through home-cooked meals, and 14.37 grams from ready-to-eat food and beverages.

In March 2025, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was the province with the highest national protein consumption, reaching 74.67 grams per capita per day.

Here is a list of the 10 provinces with the highest protein consumption in March 2025: 

1. NTB: 74.67 grams (per capita per day)
2. Riau Islands: 69.83 grams
3. South Kalimantan: 69.55 grams
4. DKI Jakarta: 68.25 grams
5. Bangka Belitung Islands: 67 grams
6. South Sumatra: 66.89 grams
7. Bali: 66.54 grams
8. North Sulawesi: 65.89 grams
9. Banten: 65.34 grams
10. DI Yogyakarta: 65 grams

Meanwhile, the province with the lowest protein consumption was Highland Papua, with only 41.34 grams per capita per day.

Furthermore, according to Minister of Health Regulation No. 28 of 2019, the recommended adequate protein intake for Indonesians ranges from 9 to 75 grams per capita per day, depending on age, gender, and body weight and height.

For pregnant and breastfeeding women, protein requirements are higher than normal conditions.

The regulation also states that, on average, the adequate protein intake for the Indonesian population is 57 grams per capita per day.

According to information from the health service website Alodokter.com, excessive protein consumption can lead to weight gain, trigger kidney damage, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
