Squid, Cuttlefish, and Octopus Export Volumes Decline in 2019

The volume of squid, cuttlefish, and octopus exports in 2019 reached 143.84 million kilograms. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries recorded a decrease compared to the previous year, which amounted to 152.10 million kilograms.

However, the value of squid, cuttlefish, and octopus exports in 2019 increased compared to the previous year. The export value in 2019 was US$ 556.29 million, or approximately Rp 7.94 trillion (using an exchange rate of US$1 = Rp 14,276), while in 2018 it was US$ 554.59 million, or approximately Rp 7.91 trillion.

The trend in the export volume of squid, cuttlefish, and octopus has generally increased from 2012 to 2019. Recorded exports of this commodity were only 82.14 kilograms in 2012. Then, in 2013, the export volume of squid, cuttlefish, and octopus increased to 90.24 kilograms. The export volume then decreased in 2014 to 77.70 kilograms.

In 2015, the export volume of squid, cuttlefish, and octopus increased again to 98.99 kilograms and in 2016 to 122.13 kilograms. Meanwhile, in 2017, it slightly decreased to 120.39 kilograms.

State-owned enterprise (BUMN) PT Perikanan Nusantara (Persero) or Perinus, a food cluster company, reportedly made its first export of packaged octopus to the United States (US). Perinus exported ready-to-eat steamed octopus and whole frozen octopus with a volume of 132 tons, or 6 forty-foot containers, to the country.
