The Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has released a list of the five most commonly found illegal cosmetic brands on online marketplaces. This finding is based on cyber patrols conducted from January to September 2023.

In addition to lacking distribution permits, several of these illegal cosmetic brands also contain hazardous or prohibited substances such as mercury, hydroquinone, tretinoin, and steroids.

HN Cream was the most widely sold illegal cosmetic brand on marketplaces, with 8,116 links found.

"HN Cream is an unregistered cosmetic product and contains hazardous substances, namely mercury," BPOM wrote in a post on its official Instagram account on Sunday (November 26, 2023).

Diamond Cream ranked second, with BPOM identifying 6,986 sales links for this cosmetic product on marketplaces.

Tabita Skincare and Tati Skincare were also found, with 3,778 and 1,791 links respectively, up to September 2023.

Finally, HB Dosting had 1,447 sales links found on online stores. BPOM stated that this illegal cosmetic brand contains hazardous substances such as hydroquinone and steroids.

"In response to this phenomenon, BPOM routinely conducts surveillance in the digital world to address the circulation of illegal cosmetics on marketplaces," BPOM wrote.
