According to a Kurious survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), spray insecticides are the most frequently used type of mosquito repellent by Indonesians.
40.1% of respondents reported frequently using spray insecticides, more so than lotion or coil types.
On the other hand, 30.4% of respondents said they used mosquito repellent lotion, while only 29.5% used mosquito coils.
The Kurious-KIC survey also found that Baygon is the most widely used mosquito repellent brand in Indonesia, at 52.1%. This is followed by HIT and Soffel mosquito repellents at 40.2% and 29.9% respectively.
The main factors respondents considered when choosing a mosquito repellent, according to the survey, were product effectiveness in killing mosquitoes (68.4%), safe ingredients and formula if inhaled (46.9%), and a non-pungent aroma/smell and non-sticky texture (42.3%).
This survey was conducted among 827 respondents across various regions in Indonesia, with 55.1% male and 44.9% female respondents.
More than half of the respondents were from Java (excluding Jakarta) at 62.6%, followed by Jakarta (13.9%), and Sumatra (11.2%). The proportion of respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 0.8% to 4.4%.
Most respondents were aged between 35-44 (32.2%), followed by the 25-34 age group (28.3%), and the 45-54 age group (23.1%).
The survey was conducted from May 30 to June 5, 2023, using the computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method, with a margin of error of approximately 3.14% and a 95% confidence level.
