Rice Surplus Stock Until the End of 2020

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) estimates that rice stocks will remain in surplus until the end of 2020. National rice production at the end of December 2019 reached 31.31 million tons, with a surplus of 5.90 million tons.

Based on data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), there are 10 provinces in Indonesia that are the highest rice producers in 2019. Central Java was the largest rice producer, reaching 5.54 million tons of rice with a harvested area of 1.68 million hectares. East Java and West Java ranked second and third as the highest rice producers. The amount of rice produced by these two provinces was 5.50 million tons and 5.21 million tons, respectively.

The increase in rice production is inseparable from the synergy between the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Governments with all parties. Not only that, the Ministry of Agriculture also plays a role in increasing national rice production through agricultural mechanization programs, the use of superior seeds, optimizing swamp land, and accelerating land preparation and planting times.
