Red chilies are one of the most widely consumed vegetable commodities in Indonesia. Based on the results of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in September 2021, the average consumption of red chilies in Indonesia reached 0.15 kg/capita/month.
In 2021, Indonesia produced 1.36 million tons of large red chilies, a 7.62% increase compared to the previous year.
West Java is the largest national center for red chili production, producing 343,070 tons or 25.21% of total national production in 2021.
The next largest red chili producing provinces are North Sumatra (210,220 tons), followed by Central Java (169,282 tons), East Java (127,429 tons), and West Sumatra (115,766 tons).
Following these are Jambi (59,855 tons), Aceh (58,381 tons), Yogyakarta Special Region (38,378 tons), and Lampung (34,550 tons).
The total production from these 10 main red chili producing areas reached 1.21 million tons, or 88.61% of total national production last year.
