According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), bananas are Indonesia's most produced fruit.
In 2022, national banana production volume reached approximately 9.6 million tons. Next were mangoes with approximately 3.3 million tons, and pineapples with approximately 3.2 million tons.
Indonesia also produces large quantities of oranges (jeruk siam), durian, salak (snake fruit), papaya, avocado, rambutan, and jackfruit, with details as shown in the graph.
Indonesia also routinely produces other fruits, such as sapodilla, star fruit, duku (a type of langsat), soursop, breadfruit, mangosteen, guava, dragon fruit, and others.
However, their production volumes are only in the range of 500,000 tons or less, considerably smaller than the ten main fruits mentioned above.
Fruits with the lowest production, less than 100,000 tons, are grapes (13,500 tons), strawberries (33,400 tons), longan (44,400 tons), and lemons (54,000 tons).
Meanwhile, according to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Indonesian people's fruit consumption is generally low.
"Our consumption of grains, oils, and fats is excessive. But our consumption of vegetables and fruits is lacking," said Nita Yulianis, Director of Food and Nutrition Preparedness at Bapanas, as reported by Antara (15/4/2023).
"This is what we need to encourage in our society, that vegetables and fruits are abundantly available in nature, so we need to boost their consumption," said Nita.
