Egg Prices in Papua Are the Highest in Indonesia

Chicken eggs are a staple food for the Indonesian public. Besides being relatively inexpensive, they are also high in protein.

However, in the lead-up to major holidays such as Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, and New Year's, the price of this commodity usually fluctuates due to increased demand and supply. In addition to daily consumption, chicken eggs are also used for industrial purposes, such as hotels, food industries, and culinary businesses.

Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the price of chicken eggs in traditional markets in Papua reached Rp 37,500/kilogram (kg) on Monday, November 15, 2021. This price was the highest compared to other provinces in Indonesia.

The next highest price for chicken eggs was in North Maluku, reaching Rp 31,000/kg. This was followed by Maluku at Rp 29,200/kg, East Nusa Tenggara at Rp 28,050/kg, and West Papua at Rp 27,350/kg.

Furthermore, the price of chicken eggs in North Kalimantan reached Rp 27,250/kg, West Kalimantan at Rp 26,350/kg, and South Kalimantan at Rp 25,650/kg. Meanwhile, in DKI Jakarta and Aceh, the price of chicken eggs was Rp 25,600/kg and Rp 25,300/kg respectively.

The national average price of eggs reached Rp 25,000/kg on November 15, 2021. The lowest price was Rp 22,950/kg and the highest was Rp 37,500/kg throughout the year.
