This year, Muslims will begin observing the Ramadan fast between March 22-23, 2023. About a week before the fasting month, beef prices have started to climb.
Based on data from the Ministry of Trade's Basic Needs and Market Monitoring System (SP2KP), on March 14, 2023, the average price of beef (hind leg) in Indonesia reached Rp137,361 per kilogram.
This price is up 0.03% compared to February 2023 (month-on-month/mom) and increased by 0.4% compared to the beginning of the year (year-to-date/ytd).
The current average beef price is also 6.3% more expensive than in March 2022 (year-on-year/yoy), reaching the highest price since the beginning of the pandemic, as shown in the graph.
Further details show that beef prices vary across provinces, ranging from Rp102,500 to Rp163,000 per kilogram. The highest price is in North Kalimantan, while the lowest is in Bali.
