This was the largest egg-producing province in Indonesia in 2021.

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that chicken egg production reached 5.16 million tons in 2021, marking a 0.28% increase from the previous year.

East Java was the largest chicken egg producer in Indonesia. Its production reached 1.67 million tons of laying hen eggs in 2021, contributing 32.47% to the national total production.

The BPS production figures update the production estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan). In September 2021, Kementan estimated East Java's chicken egg production at 1.74 million tons.

East Java's chicken egg production is in line with its laying hen population, which was also the largest in Indonesia at 119.56 million heads in 2021, according to BPS data.

Central Java recorded the second-largest chicken egg production in 2021 at 668,670.98 tons, followed by West Java, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Banten, Bali, South Sumatra, Lampung, and South Sulawesi.

Although not a major chicken egg producer, Aceh recorded the fastest production growth at 113.72%, reaching 8,173.91 tons in 2021 from the previous year.

Not all provinces recorded production growth. Central Kalimantan, for example, recorded the deepest contraction in chicken egg production at 49.49%, reaching 3,706.35 tons in 2021 from 2020.
