East Java to be Indonesia's Largest Dried Tobacco Leaf Producer in 2024

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that in 2024, the area of tobacco plantations in Indonesia reached 267,060 hectares (ha) and was spread across 14 provinces.

Meanwhile, the amount of dried tobacco leaves produced totaled 351,363 tons. This achievement increased by 22.64% compared to the 2023 production of 286,510 tons.

East Java was the largest producer of dried tobacco leaves in Indonesia with a volume of 186,500 tons in 2024. This production weight increased by 27.46% compared to 2023.

Second place was West Nusa Tenggara with 77,340 tons in 2024, up 16.42% compared to production in 2023.

This was followed by Central Java with 69,320 tons in 2024, a surge of 21.72% compared to the previous year's production.

Meanwhile, the production capacity of other provinces was recorded at less than 10,000 tons. The following is a complete list of dried tobacco leaf production in Indonesia by province in 2024, according to BPS:

3. Central Java: 69,326 tons

4. West Java: 8,870 tons

5. Aceh: 2,694 tons

6. South Sulawesi: 2,254 tons

7. North Sumatra: 1,937 tons

8. East Nusa Tenggara: 632 tons

9. Yogyakarta Special Region: 606 tons

10. Bali: 258 tons

11. Jambi: 196 tons

12. West Sumatra: 107 tons

13. Central Sulawesi: 60 tons

14. South Sumatra: 39 tons.
