Indonesia's Fluctuating Dry Tea Leaf Production from 2003-2024

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's dry tea leaf production fluctuated during the 2003-2024 period.

Dry tea leaf production in 2003 was the highest, reaching 169,821 tons. Meanwhile, production in 2023 was the lowest during that period, at only 116,506 tons.

In 2024, dry tea leaf production reached 118,895 tons. This figure is up 2.05% compared to production in 2023.

Based on the type of ownership, production from smallholder plantations dominated with 48,212 tons (40.55%), followed by state-owned large plantations with 46,860 tons (39.41%), and private large plantations with 23,823 tons (20.04%).

In terms of international trade, the BPS stated that Indonesia's tea exports in 2024 were still dominated by black tea, reaching 81.18% of total exports.

The main export destination for tea in 2024 was Malaysia, with export volume reaching 9,359 tons or 27.51% of total national tea exports.

In 2024, Indonesia recorded tea imports totaling 13,043 tons. Vietnam was the largest source of tea imports, with an import volume of 10,265 tons or 78.69% of total national tea imports.
