Indonesia's Tea Plantation Area Reaches 97,000 Hectares in 2024: Here's the Distribution

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the area of tea plantations in Indonesia in 2024 reached 97,539 hectares (ha), spread across 10 provinces.

Based on ownership status, people's plantations dominated with 49,147 ha (50.39%), followed by state-owned large plantations with 25,498 ha (26.14%), and private large plantations with 22,894 ha (23.47%).

Meanwhile, by province, West Java had the largest area, with more than 77,000 ha. This was followed by Central Java and North Sumatra.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the area of tea plantations in Indonesia by province in 2024:

• West Java: 77,264 ha
• Central Java: 7,970 ha
• North Sumatra: 3,523 ha
• West Sumatra: 2,875 ha
• Jambi: 1,951 ha
• South Sumatra: 1,523 ha
• East Java: 1,348 ha
• Bengkulu: 914 ha
• Yogyakarta Special Region: 136 ha
• Banten: 35 ha

BPS stated that Indonesia's dry tea leaf production has shown a fluctuating trend, especially from 2021 to 2024.

In 2024, dry tea leaf production reached 118,895 tons. Production from people's plantations dominated with 48,212 tons (40.55%).

This was followed by production from state-owned large plantations with 46,860 tons (39.41%) and private large plantations with 23,823 tons (20.04%).
