Horticultural Farmers' Purchasing Power Fell Most Sharply in February 2025

The purchasing power of horticultural farmers experienced the sharpest decline in February 2025. This is reflected in the decrease of the horticultural farmer's terms of trade index (NTPH).

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the NTPH index fell 6.84% to 120.18 in February 2025 compared to the previous month's 129.01.

This decline was triggered by a 7.08% drop in the index of prices received by horticultural farmers (It) to 146.01 in February 2025 from 157.13 the previous month.

"This was caused by an 8.75% drop in the It for vegetable commodities to 156.58 last month from 171.44 the previous month," wrote the BPS in its release on Monday (3/3/2025).

Meanwhile, the index of prices paid by horticultural farmers (Ib) only fell 0.42% in February 2025 to 121.49 from 121.8 the previous month.

Besides horticultural farmers, the livestock farmer's terms of trade index (NTPT) last month also fell 0.51% to 100.85 from the previous month.

Meanwhile, the food crop farmer's terms of trade index (NTPT) in February rose 0.47% to 109.57 from 109.06 the previous month.

Similarly, the fishermen and fish farmers' terms of trade index (NTNP) in February 2025 rose 0.92% to 103.89 from 102.94 the previous month, and the purchasing power of people's plantation farmers (NTPR) last month rose 1.03% to 165.51 from 163.82 the previous month.

The combined farmer's terms of trade index (NTP) in February 2024 was 123.45, down 0.18% from the previous month's 123.68.
