Indonesia's Rice Exports Reach US$957,000 in August 2021

Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin, speaking at the 2021 Agriculture Award Ceremony on Monday, September 13th, stated that one of the government's objectives for national agricultural development is increased exports. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows an increase in Indonesian rice exports in August 2021, reaching US$957,000, a 21% increase compared to the previous month's US$755,000.

Meanwhile, the volume of rice exports in August amounted to 1.1 million kg, a 14% decrease from the previous month's 1.28 million kg. The BPS also recorded that the value of Indonesian rice exports from January to August this year reached US$2.07 million, a 51% surge compared to the January-December 2020 period, which only reached US$1.01 million.

An increase also occurred in the volume of rice exports during the first eight months of this year. The volume increased by 85% to 2.5 million kg compared to the entire previous year, which only reached 366,000 kg.

Along with the increase in rice exports, the Vice President believes the government can still guarantee the availability of 11 main commodities for Indonesia's 273 million people.

The Vice President also emphasized that national rice production in the last two years has been very promising. According to him, up to the third week of August 2021, rice stocks reached 7.60 million tons. This conducive condition of domestic food stocks is accompanied by the continuously improving performance of agricultural exports.
