Brand-Name Cooking Oil Prices Soar, Highest in Indonesia in North Maluku

The price of branded packaged cooking oil has soared since the end of 2021. Based on data from the Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the average national price of branded packaged cooking oil was Rp 20,900/kilogram (kg) as of January 18, 2022.

The price of branded packaged cooking oil in traditional markets in North Maluku reached Rp 24,750/kg. This price is 18.42% higher than the national average and the highest among all provinces.

West Papua is in second place, with the price of branded packaged cooking oil in its traditional markets reaching Rp 22,900/kg. Next, the price of branded packaged cooking oil in East Nusa Tenggara is Rp 22,350/kg.

Following this, the price of branded packaged cooking oil in Southeast Sulawesi and Maluku is Rp 22,200/kg and Rp 22,150/kg respectively. Then, the price in Papua is Rp 22,050/kg.

Furthermore, the price of branded packaged cooking oil in Central Kalimantan is Rp 21,750/kg and in Aceh is Rp 21,600/kg. Meanwhile, in South Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi, the price is Rp 21,500/kg each.

The government has officially implemented a single price policy for packaged cooking oil throughout Indonesia, namely Rp 14,000.00 per liter, effective January 19, 2022. However, for traditional markets, the government has stated that an adjustment period of at most one week from the effective date will be given. 250 million liters of cooking oil at this special price will be provided per month for six months.
