Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's garlic production volume in 2022 reached 30,194 tons.

On the other hand, the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) believes that the price volatility of this commodity is also influenced by an unhealthy garlic import trade system.

"Only a handful of companies enjoy garlic import quotas. We hope the government and law enforcement can take firm action to maintain a healthier trade system. Especially since this commodity is one of the basic necessities in Indonesia," said Hadi Nainggolan, Head of the BPP Hipmi Agriculture, Plantation, and Livestock Division, in a press release on Thursday (25/5/2023).
