Three provinces on the island of Java remain the largest producers of national corn. East Java, Central Java, and West Java contribute 48.4% of domestic corn production. Meanwhile, the largest corn centers outside Java are Lampung, South Sulawesi (Sulsel), and North Sumatra (Sumut).
Based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, national corn production from 2013-2017 increased by an average of 8.02%/year. Corn production in 2017 grew by 18.55% to 27.95 million tons from 23.58 million tons the previous year. Corn production in 2018 is predicted to reach 30 million tons of dry corn (pk), while consumption needs are estimated at 15.5 million tons. This means there is a surplus of around 12.98 million tons. Indonesia has even exported 373,000 tons of corn to the Philippines and Malaysia. However, amidst this corn self-sufficiency, the government plans to import 100,000 tons of corn to meet domestic needs, especially for livestock feed processing.
