Mount Dukono Erupts Tuesday Morning, Status Remains on Alert

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 08.10 WIT. This is the second eruption in the last week.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,087 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the south. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 1, 2025, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 194 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 37.55-188.08 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 17-30 millimeters, S-P times of 24.37-46.38 seconds, and durations of 74.8-187.44 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-5 millimeters, predominantly 2 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,536 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,181 times), while Mount Dukono erupted 65 times.
