The average electricity tariff for all customer groups in May 2017 was Rp 1,083 per kWh, an 8.95 percent increase from the end-of-2016 rate of Rp 994 per kWh. The average electricity tariff for household customers was Rp 1,006 per kWh, an 18.91 percent increase from the end of last year. This was the highest increase compared to other groups.
The removal of subsidies for 19 million customers deemed capable of paying, those using 900 VA electricity, resulted in the highest increase in household electricity tariffs this year. The tariff adjustment took place in three stages, beginning in early January. Each stage involved a tariff adjustment of approximately 30 percent. By the end of June, the tariff will be closer to its economic rate of Rp 1,467 per kWh.
Meanwhile, the electricity tariff for social users in May 2017 was Rp 821 per kWh, an increase of only 0.12 percent from the end of 2016. This was the lowest increase compared to other groups. The electricity tariff for the business sector was Rp 1,242 per kWh, a 3.3 percent increase from the end of last year. The electricity tariff for the industrial sector was Rp 1,090 per kWh, a 2.83 percent increase from the end of 2016.
