80.15% Electricity Access in West Kalimantan from PLN in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that 80.13% of electricity supply in West Kalimantan originated from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN in 2020. This figure decreased by 5.05% compared to the previous year, which reached 85.18%.

Pontianak City had the highest percentage of electricity supply from PLN, at 95.36%. This was followed by Kubu Raya Regency and Sambas Regency with percentages of 93.77% and 93.62%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the lowest percentage of electricity supply from PLN was in Sintang Regency, at 59.87%. Above it were Melawi Regency and Sekadau Regency with percentages of 60.81% and 65.3%, respectively.

PLN reported that it had successfully conducted a trial run of the Kalbar-1 Unit 2 Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU) located in Bengkayang, West Kalimantan in June 2021. This PLTU will supply an additional 200 Megawatts (MW) of electricity to customers.

This PLTU can also reduce the volume of electricity purchases from Sesco Malaysia by up to 48%. As a result, the Kalbar-1 Unit 2 IPP PLTU will contribute to increasing national energy independence and resilience, especially in West Kalimantan.
