PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) will take over a Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU) owned by PLN, namely the Pelabuhan Ratu PLTU located in Sukabumi Regency, West Java.
"Because PLN and we are both moving towards net-zero emissions. The fact is, PTBA is still liquid, so we're taking it over," said PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail at the SOE International Conference in Bali, as reported by CNN Indonesia, Wednesday (10/19/2022).
Deputy Minister of SOEs Pahala Mansury stated that there are several requirements that PTBA must meet to take over the Pelabuhan Ratu PLTU, one of which is reducing the remaining retirement period of the PLTU from 24 years to 15 years. This reduction in retirement period is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 51 million tons.
"This is a model of how serious SOEs are, ensuring that we are ready to enter the energy transition," said Pahala, as reported by Katadata, Tuesday (10/18/2022).
According to PLN's report, until 2021 Indonesia had 126 PLTU units spread across the Regional Business Units (UIW), Power Generation Business Units (UIK), Power Generation and Distribution Business Units (UIKL), and Power Development Business Units (UIP) of PLN in various Indonesian provinces.
