State Electricity Company (PLN) still experienced an electricity oversupply until 2023.
This is evident from the data in the *PLN Statistics (Unaudited) 2023* report published in March 2024.
According to the report, throughout 2023 PLN had an electricity supply of 323.3 thousand gigawatt-hours (GWh). Approximately 57% of this was self-generated, and 43% was purchased from other parties.
In 2023, PLN sold 288.4 thousand GWh of electricity to customers, and PLN used 28.8 thousand GWh internally and for energy losses, resulting in a total of 317.2 thousand GWh sold and used/lost.
Based on this data, in 2023 PLN had an oversupply of approximately 6.1 thousand GWh.
A similar condition occurred for at least the last ten years, although the oversupply has tended to decrease.
Here is a breakdown of the estimated PLN electricity oversupply based on the calculation: Electricity Supply Produced and Purchased by PLN - (Electricity Sold to Customers + Electricity Used by PLN and Energy Losses):
* 2014: 7.9 thousand GWh
* 2015: 8.5 thousand GWh
* 2016: 9.2 thousand GWh
* 2017: 9.4 thousand GWh
* 2018: 7.4 thousand GWh
* 2019: 7.6 thousand GWh
* 2020: 6.3 thousand GWh
* 2021: 6.7 thousand GWh
* 2022: 6.6 thousand GWh
* 2023: 6.1 thousand GWh
