East Java, the Indonesian Province with the Longest Roads in 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the length of roads in Indonesia reached 549,161 kilometers (km) in 2022. This figure increased by approximately 0.46% compared to the previous year, which was 546,630 km.

Based on the level of authority, roads under the authority of regencies/cities reached 446,787 km. Roads under the authority of provincial governments totaled 54,557 km.

Meanwhile, roads under the authority of the central government totaled 47,817 km.

Based on region, East Java had the longest roads in Indonesia in 2022, reaching 42,422 km. The length of roads in this province is equivalent to 7.72% of the total national road length.

This was followed by North Sumatra, which has roads totaling 40,910 km. Then, the length of roads in Central Java and South Sulawesi were 30,819 km and 30,644 km respectively.

On the other hand, Yogyakarta had the shortest roads nationally in 2022, at only 4,449 km. Above it were North Kalimantan and Gorontalo with road lengths of 4,973 km and 5,516 km respectively.
