Bridges connect one area to another. As a connecting tool, bridge infrastructure also plays a role in boosting economic activity in a region to make it more developed. According to a *Ranked* report in January 2021, the Danyan-Kunshan Grand Bridge in China, with a length of 164.8 kilometers, was named the longest bridge in the world.
The bridge is located on the high-speed rail line between Nanjing and Shanghai. It took 4 years to build the Danyan-Kunshan bridge structure with 10,000 workers. In total, the bridge project cost almost US$8.5 billion, or approximately Rp 121.3 trillion (US$1 = Rp 14,269).
Changhua-Kaohsiung Viaduct ranks second as the longest bridge in the world. This bridge, located in Taiwan, has a length of 157.3 kilometers.
Next in rank are the Tianjin Grand Bridge, Cangde Grand Bridge, and Weinan Weihe Grand Bridge. These three bridges from China have lengths of 113.7 kilometers, 105.8 kilometers, and 79.73 kilometers, respectively.
Other longest bridges include the Bang Na Expressway bridge in Thailand (54 kilometers), the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad bridge in Kuwait (48.5 kilometers), the Beijing Grand Bridge in China (48.1 kilometers), the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the United States (38.4 kilometers), and the Line 1 Wuhan Metro bridge in China (37.7 kilometers).
